month 4, month 5 and the third being this month.. month 6.. getting a bump :o)

Here are a few other 6 month shots...
Our baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long, he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon. In the past few weeks, the top of the uterus has risen above my belly button and is now about the size of a soccer ball.
We are turning on the radio and swaying to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, our baby can feel me dance. Soon we may be able to see her squirm underneath my clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that our baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as a dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb.

At 11 inches - and almost 1 pound, our baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.
Updates for this week
* I have been having headaches a lot this week. :-/ It must be the hormones.
* The baby has been moving around much more. I have discovered our little one likes Stevie Wonder! Two separate occasions and different songs by him and the baby was dancing around in my tummy in the car! Good taste little pierogi!
* We felt the baby kick from the outside today!! I felt it myself and quickly replaced my hand with Dwights and he felt it too.
Our baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a carrot.
It may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. I may also discover a pattern to her activity as I get to know her better. In other developments, our baby's eyebrows and lids are present now. The beginnings of what is commonly called “brown fat” is just starting to fill in to help our baby retain some body heat, which is crucial as she is not yet capable of regulating her own body temperature.
* Sitting on the couch last night I said "Oooh!" all of the sudden. I had felt a kick! Just one kick but it made me say that "Ooh" out loud. I have been feeling the baby move more but it was definitely different to feel a kick!
* Our computer is broken for the time being so I have to come to the library to do my updates. I can't wait to get it fixed or a new one so that it is much easier. :o)
Our baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana.
He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and we will see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).
Some new things with us:
* I am still feeling the baby move but no huge kicks yet. We are still waiting to feel it move from the outside.
* We have both begun talking to my belly. I even read it one of the baby books that I recently bought.
* My taste for food has become better lately. I love oranges, cheeseburgers, and sweets. I am also eating more salad again.
* I am still able to sleep on my stomach and continue to do so sometimes but it will not be much longer. I have been sleeping on my side half of the time. I am starting to feel a little bump while laying on my tummy.
* The excitement is unbearable sometimes. We cannot wait to meet this little person that we created. I can't wait for the little toes and fingers, and to see what the baby looks like!
