Toothbrush

Anya has a new toothbrush and toothbrush holder. At the store they had a giraffe, elephant, bear, and dinosaur holder. I held my two favorites (elephant and giraffe) up to her at the store and let her choose. Her eyes drifted back and forth from the giraffe to the elephant. She did this a couple times and then reached for the giraffe. I think it is the first real choice I have given her, although there may have been others. We already had a white toothbrush at home for her but it gets difficult with one and we really needed two. I try and brush those front teeth and she tries to grab it from me. Now we each have a brush and I get at least one swipe in before she turns her head and tightens those lips. Sometimes I show her how I brush my teeth with my own toothbrush. I usually sing a song, this is the way we brush our teeth, brush our teeth, brush our teeth. We aren't using toothpaste yet, just water. Now that we have her toothbrush hanging in our bathroom I keep looking at it. Every time I go in there, I find myself staring at this new, adorable, toothbrush holder. A toothbrush is a sign of who lives in a house. Before we had two because there were two of us. Now there are three. It feels like a solidification of the fact that Anya is part of our family. She is not leaving. She lives here. She is a growing person with teeth. I love it.

two stories

Here are 2 stories from yesterday...

I was putting Anya in her doorway jumper and one of her legs was folded in and stuck. I didn't notice and I began to back away. She started jumping like usual but something didn't look right. She was jumping with one leg. We have such an easy going baby. She figured "well okay mom I will just use one leg then, it's alright".. :)

Later on at bath time I felt in her mouth and she has a 5th tooth cut through!! It is the upper left lateral incisor (tooth next to the front middle 2). I am so happy that this one wasn't as painful as the last two... maybe the next one will be this easy :) I am going to really try and take a photo of these teeth. It is much easier to get pictures of the bottom teeth.

Her father's daughter

In the morning when Anya wakes I change her diaper, bring her downstairs, she gets her breakfast bottle, and then I prop her on the couch surrounded by toys while I make coffee and my breakfast and/or Dwight's lunch. Around this time Dwight is getting up and coming down the stairs. Anya hears him and stares at the stairway waiting to see him. When she sees him there is a huge smile and happy kicks. She looooves him.
This morning Dwight had left for work before we had gotten very far into our morning routine. I was making coffee and I heard the TV go on in the living room. I go in and Anya is holding the remote control watching TV! She is definitely Dwight's daughter :-) Once in a while I will put a Baby Einstein video on for her and she loves it. I showed her how to put PBS on. ;-)

On other topics.. she is going to cut her 4th tooth soon (top left). Her gums are swollen so I can't wait for that stinkin' tooth to pop through and put us both out of agony. I hate knowing that she is in pain. She is a trooper about it but I can tell when she isn't herself.

Tooth #2 for our cupcake

This is Anya in the morning watching Baby Einstein with me on the couch. She has her pea pod doll with her :o) I love warm morning snuggles.

This hat was made by Nina who is the owner of Nini Bambini where we take classes. My mom ordered it from her... thanks mom/nana! It is a cupcake for our cupcake. Today Anya turned 5 months and it was a perfect celebratory hat. To celebrate 5 months she cut her second tooth through! Just like her mommy.. two new teeth in two days. We went to our first music class today. It is called Seedlings and it is a baby music class with songs and the guitar. There are maracas, tambourines, etc. Anya loved watching Nina on the guitar and the babies that could crawl and walk. So far she is doing pretty well with teething. She seems more tired and she gets a little bit cranky when she gets this tired.

First tooth (or teeth?) coming up!!

I felt in Anya's mouth today and found a tooth already cut through!! It is the bottom right tooth (left in the photo). It is just barely cut through but it is definitely up. I think the tooth next to it is starting to emerge as well. I looked in my baby book and my front bottom teeth came in one day apart from each other. Anya will be 5 months this week. I was 5 1/2 months when mine came up.
